Paul McCrory runs HOOK training ltd, a company devoted to helping educators in visitor attractions and outreach organisations engage their learners. His approach combines interactive performance techniques and psychology.
He has spent over 20 years working as an informal educator and trainer in the UK, Ireland and internationally. Paul has presented science demonstrations in all sorts of settings, including museums, school halls, the street, theatres, muddy fields, trains and, once, an airport security queue. This unconventional career has given him a wealth of experience in engaging a wide range of voluntary audiences in accessible and interesting ways.
Although Paul’s academic background is in science education — his PhD research explored how science teachers can create interest through their delivery — the principles underlying how to engage learners are universal. These are the ideas he now wants to share with informal educators working in any subject.
